I need your help/advice...

So here's the deal.

My 11 year old has the flu and is home from school. He's better today then yesterday when he had it both coming and going (if you know what I mean, and if you don't you can come clean the bathroom next time). All he's got today is a nasty cough, and a tiredness. His plan today is to rest on the couch, and watch all 6 Star Wars movies in a row.

So, here's where I need the help. I want to go to the gym. After spending all day with him yesterday, I'm looking for a little physical activity cuz I'm getting cabin fever. I don't have an issue leaving him home alone, but I'm not sure how I feel about leaving him home alone when he's sick, even though he's mostly better.


So, I turn to you all, my most learned and wise friends, for your thoughts.

I'd go. When I get that feeling you describe I find I become impatient and unpleasant. Something a sick kid doesn't need. You'd both be better off if you go cure your cabin fever at the gym, crack house, or happy ending massage parlor.

You are a good dad.

He never said his decision was subject to wife approval. I would have told him to punt right away. I haven't been right since I got married...and I sure as hell wasn't right when I made that choice!

Can you just imagine this discussion?:

"Honey I just checked with all of my internet pals and they felt that since I was starting to feel a little antsy in the house and since the boy was doing better it would be fine for me to head over to the gym for a quick workout."

I mean even Mother Teresa would've kicked you in the nuts for trying to pull a stunt like that.

"I thought it through and decided that it was important for me to spend this quality bonding time with my son. We spent the afternoon playing video games and looking at my old Playboy stash. Today's the day that my boy became a man."
