FWIW, he was a very funny guy, with enormous stage freight - which only exacerbated his drinking. We hired him here on campus, and he was blitzed when he arrived - performed his show- took his check - and his driver took him back to his hotel. The end. When he was on, he was ON...but, he apparently had a very difficult time relating to people when he wasn't stoned/drunk.
