...during your tenure in DC? I caught his show last night at Arlington, Virginia's Iota club. Simply stellar.
I never did see him, but he was a legend during the years I lived in DC. Somehow I just never got to a show. Sounds like good stuff.

Same here (until last night, that is). My two musical regrets in the DC area: never seeing the Ramones when they regularly played the former Louie's Rock City (in neighboring Bailey's Crossroads, VA) and never seeing Mr. Keene in his 80s heydey. Both opportunities I always dismissed saying that I would simply see them next time.
Well, there is no next time for the Ramones. Hence my motivation to go to last night's gig. Phenomenal. A good write-up about Tommy Keene in yesterday's Washington Post Weekend section, too.

I saw the Ramones every chance I got when in NY, and once at the Bayou when I lived in DC. I took a bunch of stuffy work friends and enjoyed watching their faces as much as the show. DC had a great music scene in the mid to late 80's. Sounds like they still do!

Sadly closed now for more than a decade (and where so many acts played before they "made it" [including U2, Joe Jackson, KISS, etc.]). :(

One of the more memorable shows I saw there was Southside Johnny. The music was okay, but seeing them, wth full horn section, on that tiny stage, was amazing!
Last time I was in town I drove by. I think it is a parking garage now. So sad!

Brass, indeed, makes all the difference (as those seeing a Fleshtones show in the early 80s with such and later without can attest).

This Neil Young song (actually the lyrics of the same) play a featured role in the Jonathan Demme flick...
...and which I finally caught this weekend. A very, very good movie. As big of a Neil Young fan as I think I am, I was not familar with this particular song which is classic Neil Young. FYI.

HERE is link to actual video. Harvest Moon is one of my favorite Neil Young albums. None of the songs are his best, but the album played as a whole is a great piece of work, Great for a long trip on an open road.

"Harvest Moon," alone, is a great song. Thanks, Agent 13.

I just heard this kick-ass tune from the Swedish garage band...
...this weekend. What a fun minute and 51-seconds. Just as good, here is an acoustic version of the same.

Loved seeing Southside Johnny back in the day. It was definitely all about the horns. If I'm not confused (and what are the odds of that) alot of Johnny's horn guys were in Max Weinberg's band on the Conan O'Brien Show.
By the way, if you like horn-driven bands in my opinion the best current proponents are the still-going-strong-after-35 years Tower of Power.

I always liked Mr. Hay ansd really enjoyed this use of Mr. Hay and his music on an early "Scrubs" episode.
Rumor has it that Mr. Hay will appear this Wednesday evening on what is purportedly the "Scrubs" series finale.
