Howard Stern

Post by Independent George on Tue May 26, 2009 10:34 am

Last week, XM was running a free preview of Howard 100 and 101 from Sirius. Fortunately for me, I spent a considerable amount of time in the car and caught a lot of the shows. It seemed like the show was in top form - and they seemingly had fabulous guests. The strange thing is that if I saw some of theses guests appearing on Leno or Letterman I would go right past them, but on Howard they seemed incredibly compelling. Just from last week, I caught interviews with Bryce Dallas Howard, Jesse James and Jimmy Kimmel. Yesterday, Kimmel was hosting a re-packaged "Best of" show - which I thought was fabulous. I hadn't heard those old Billy West-Marge Schott clips in YEEEEEARS...plus Gilbert Gottfried, the now infamous Iron Sheikh interview (which Artie seems to parody often), "Shoo Shoo Retarded Flu" (may be the best prank phone call ever) and more.

I am seriously (*no pun intended...I swear) thinking about plunking down the monthly nut for the extra Sirius package on my XM. I paid $77 for the year for XM, so that was a pretty good bargain - maybe enough to swing for the extra for Howard.

The real question is...to those of you who still have access and listen all the time...has the show been consistently as good as last week, or was this just pimped up for the XM preview?

Howard was part of my day for so many years, but I haven't heard him at all since he went to satellite and the free online trials ended.

I listened to those first few shows and felt some of the tension was gone. I enjoyed how he would go right up to "the line"...stick a toe over, then back off.

I may be getting a car with a 6 month XM trial...I'll see if I get hooked.

Unless I am mistaken, an XM trial will still not come with Stern. For XM subscribers, one must still subscribe to the "Best of Sirius" package - which will also include the NFL and NASCAR (for all you redneck-like folks). Sirius subscribers can also purchase a "Best of XM" package which includes MLB and Opie and Anthony (among other things, I am sure). I think both packages are an additional $4.95/mo.

AL - Richard and Sal are the Kings of all Phony Phone Calls now. I did hear the ladies reading their listings on Trade-io (or whatever it is called). I still have a hard time believing that there are people who are THAT naive.

Correct. Sirius = Dog.

And, you don't need to get all of the out-of-market baseball games - you can listen to the beloved (if not broken-down) Mets direct from the Mother ship. But, with the MLB package, every other week (give or take) you get three innings of Vin Scully on the Dodgers home game broadcasts.
