the folks up the street

Post by clothier on Tue Sep 08, 2009 9:28 am

So, the house just up the road from mine got robbed last week in broad daylight. The thieves waited until the people left, came in through the side door of the garage, pulled their van into the garage, and stole: the HD tv, 2 laptops, a video camera, 2 digital cameras, and the Wii. About 5K worth of stuff or so. Which sent my wife into a panic. When we leave now every window has to closed, and we've started using the double lock on the doors. It's a pain in the butt.
She said they thieves had to have been watching the house, and it creeps her out.

I told her not to worry, since we have none of those electronic toys to steal, other then a digital camera, and someone was watching the house, they'd know it's not worth it to break in, since we have nothing to take. plus, we have the big, mean looking dog, who in reality is a big coward, but you wouldn't know that from watching him.

Anyway, we are living under house arrest and lock and key until she calms down.

I can sympathize. It took me forever to regain equilibrium after we had the break ins. Getting the alarm system helped. But it is always there in the back of your head everytime you leave the house. And I cannot tell you what it is like to get home from work to find your house torn apart. Literally. Cabinets open. Drawers and their contents on the floor. Mail ripped open. Mattresses ripped off the beds. Even the freezer hanging open. Then the cops come and leave even more of a mess.

I was so thankful the kitties stayed put and didn't escape or get cut by broken glass.

Invasions are scary fucking shit.
